History

Cierre was set up by Mr. Romano Conficconi over 30 years ago in Milan. It is a family business with its original factory and design studios in the Italian cities of Forli and Milan. The business has now passed to the second generation and Cierre has become a renowned sofa maker on high end luxury leather sofa. Nowadays, Cierre develops from a family-run business to a dynamic international design name.

Being an Italian brand, it has the privilege to anticipate closer with the trend and get faster in the product development as a result of its location in Milan – the global centre of design for home and Italian leather is known to the world its specialty.

Cierre adheres to specific processing and manufacturing techniques origin from Italian craft traditions and has diversified from classical design to modern contemporary design including more metallic features into its furniture 10 years ago. The high quality craftsmanship and elegance of its products has established its reputation, meeting the needs of discerning customers searching for unique and exceptional pieces for their living homes.

Cierre has been developing items for different market from time to time, such as for customers in Italy, France, Korean and lately for HK. In July 2006, it goes beyond Europe and for the first time, opened its first concept store in Asia in Hong Kong as a window to China and other Asian cities.


Philosophy

"Living in leather" is the heart of everything the company does.

The company has been developed not only furniture, but also leather. Its aim is to take this classical material to transform it not an exciting new, contemporary design.

The company has remained passionate with leather, even other furniture makers have experimented with new, synthetic, high tech material, Mr. Stefano Conficconi, the current owner of Cierre said, "The company has been always been run differently from other furniture makers. The approach of the company is not just to give our client a sofa. There are thousands of companies that can do that. What was always our approach, our mentality is that we try to portray and sell a feeling, scenery or a living concept." The store and the displayed were aimed to expressively spread the company's unique design vision (namely a collection of emotion, environment and enjoying life) to the homeowners in the region.

The expertise in leather making is apparent not only in upholstery items. Currently, the brand has diversified a range of leather upholstered items including dining set, cabinets, chairs, lamps, bedroom items, some of which are on display in Cierre's concept stores in Happy Valley.

Cierre has reached out to Asian market since last 5 years. Despite the culture and social differences in Asia, Conficconi thinks there will not dilute or change the philosophy of the company in making furniture – "Living in leather". Conficconi said, "We are convinced that our design philosophy can find an appreciative audience in Asia. We want to simulate different emotions in the Asian consumer, and perhaps nurture a slower pace of life and a sense of being welcomed." He hopes what he calls the ‘living concept" of his products helps balance and improves the lifestyles of customers in here, in Asia.
